The project is developed as a tribute to Ar.Laurie Baker, to celebrate his 100th birth anniversary. An initiative by IIA Trivandrum to do 100 installations with brick at selected places in and around Trivandrum city.
A demonstration of the versatility of the banal primary geometric form – the cube. Using multiple brick bonds, a stable three-dimensional form, 1 m x 1 m x 1 m is representative of countless architectural possibilities, spatial and formal tectonics. A Hundred Ways to Use a Boring cube, the accompanying graphic series is a playful metaphoric expression of what the boring cube can be.
The Boring cube is an adaptation of Kesselskramer’s campaign for 2016 Triennale Di Milano, “the only design you will ever need”. Which is inspired by Bruce Mau’s statement, Now that we have made everything, what will we make?”
Boring Cube consist of a 80 x 80 x 80 cm brick cube made of 423 bricks. Placed on a 200 x 200 cm brick base made of 200 bricks (total 623 bricks).
