The project called for the design of an outhouse in a beautiful, lush site next to paddy fields located in the town of Perambra, on the outskirts of Kozhikode. The young client desired for a space of refuge to be placed in the landscape which could elevate the experience of the surroundings from within the home. The rectangular form of the outhouse was placed parallel to the paddy fields on the western side and from its length an extended square court formed to the eastern side in the presence of a grove of areca palm trees and a mango tree. Spaces like the kitchen, bathroom and study were placed on the eastern side and expressed as a solid edge cutting the views of the paddy field as one approaches the house. The areca palm trees naturally growing in a grid-like placement are composed within the square while a quarter circle gracefully defines a path leading up to the main entry.
